Published via the yankee Geophysical Union as a part of the Geophysical Monograph Series.Abrupt weather swap: Mechanisms, styles, and Impacts brings jointly a various crew of paleoproxy files similar to ice cores, marine sediments, terrestrial (lakes and speleothems) documents, and paired ocean-atmosphere weather types to record fresh advances in knowing the mechanisms of abrupt weather alterations. because the discovery of the Dansgaard-Oeschger occasions in Greenland ice cores and the next discovery in their modern occasions within the marine sediments of the North Atlantic, the hunt for those abrupt, millennial-scale occasions around the globe has intensified, and consequently, the variety of paleoclimatic documents chronicling such occasions has elevated. the quantity highlights comprise discussions of documents of earlier weather variability, meridional overturning...

This booklet provides an in-depth dialogue of the organic and ecological geography of the oceans. It synthesizes in the community constrained reviews of the sea to generate an international geography of the gigantic marine global. in accordance with styles of algal ecology, the e-book divides the sea into 4 basic cubicles, that are then subdivided into secondary booths.

Deep-Water Coral Reefs: Unique Biodiversity Hot-Spots - download pdf or read online

Due to in depth ocean backside surveys, normally for the aim of constructing oil and fuel assets, scientists be aware of that deep-water corals shape vast reefs and massive carbonate mounds within the chilly waters of all of the significant oceans. This booklet, written via Hovland (Statoil, Norway), a marine geology professional, is of substantial curiosity because of its many coloured images and drawings that illustrate the destinations and natural range of the reefs and lumps.

Alien Ocean: Anthropological Voyages in Microbial Seas by Stefan Helmreich PDF

Alien Ocean immerses readers in worlds being newly explored via marine biologists, worlds often out of sight and succeed in: the deep sea, the microscopic realm, and oceans past nationwide obstacles. operating along scientists at sea and in labs in Monterey Bay, Hawai'i, the Woods gap Oceanographic establishment, and the Sargasso Sea and at undersea volcanoes within the jap Pacific, Stefan Helmreich charts how revolutions in genomics, bioinformatics, and distant sensing have pressed marine biologists to work out the ocean as lively through its smallest population: marine microbes.

Download e-book for iPad: Theoretische Meteorologie: Eine Einführung by Dieter Etling

Voelker and de Abreu also evaluated changes in seasonality based on the difference in δ18O between Globigerina bulloides and Globorotalia inflata [Ganssen and Kroon, 2000]. As a result, migration of subpolar and subtropical boundaries and hydrographic fronts during abrupt climate events were identified. Voelker and de Abreu suggest that nutrient levels and thus ventilation of the upper 400 m of the water column were not driven by millennial-scale events. In contrast, millennial-scale oscillations in ventilation were recorded in the intermediate to bottom waters, indicating the status of the overturning circulation either in the North Atlantic or in the Mediterranean Sea that admixed deep flowing Mediterranean Overflow Water to the Glacial North Atlantic Intermediate Water.

PREFACE When the first book on abrupt climate change was published in 1987, the idea of millennial climatic oscillations now known as the Dansgaard-Oeschger events, named after seminal researchers Willi Dansgaard and Hans Oeschger, was slowly taking shape, while periodic collapse and rebuilding of the Northern Hemisphere ice sheets at millennial timescales, recognized as the Heinrich (named for Hartmut Heinrich) iceberg-rafting events, were not yet known. Using marine sediment data from the northeast Atlantic deep-sea cores, Gerard Bond and Wallace Broecker, and colleagues in 1992 and 1993 placed Heinrich’s work into a wider climate context; climatologists began to consider mechanisms of reorganization of the global ocean-atmospheric system at millennial and finer timescales.
